Finally updated! As Promised! and Shay's Testimony

I wish... I know I promised you all pictures of our lives for the last 4 months. I know I promised to deliver my promises on Sunday. I wish, oh how I wish, those plans went as planned and that blogging our joys is what I did on Sunday. But life happened to us on Sunday. Basically, it knocked our teeth out. I don't know how much I should say, other than Colton's parents and family have been dealt quite the trial. In an instant, all of our lives will never be the same. I've pondered a lot in the last 48 hours...pretty much all I've done is pondered, really. There isn't much to do except ponder, and ponder...and ponder. I've come to some conclusions that I want to record for my posterity, and so I never forget how I feel at this very moment. This blog is what we've decided will be our family journal. So in case you are reading this, and you don't care to read about us in a personal way, feel free to stop reading. But maybe, this might help some of you down the road.

Faith is such a funny thing. It seems so...primary?...if you know what I mean. We have sang about it, learned about it, quoted about it, as long as I can remember. I guess I assumed I had faith. I guess I thought I knew what it meant. Suddenly, along comes this monumental hurdle. Like, 10 foot tall Michael Jordan-like giants can't jump this thing. But the Dye's have been asked to jump it.

Faith is waking up tomorrow and still looking for the good, knowing that everything is going to be just as wrong tomorrow as it is today. Faith and love go hand in hand. Both make you so extremely vulnerable. I love, therefore I have faith. I have faith, therefore I love. To stop loving is to cease having faith. To love, to have faith, hurts. It hurts so bad.

Our Father in Heaven and our Savior, Jesus Christ, love us and value us more than our human beings can comprehend. I know that even in their perfect state, they feel pain when we turn out backs on love and faith, on them. How do I know this? I think I'm feeling something sort of like how they must feel. In all of life's trials, and hurts, and pains, I have never felt this much agony before.

The cause of these feelings is that someone so dear to us, has decided to give up on faith and love. They have decided to turn their back on our Savior. Jesus Christ suffered in Gethsemane in part for all the people who would turn their back on Him and the gospel. Isn't that a funny thought? Why would he suffer such rejection and pain for people he knew wouldn't accept His gift? Maybe I will understand that and have an answer for that someday.

I can't imagine how the Savior must have felt. One person, whom we cherish so much, who is so valuable to us, has decided to give up the good fight. They have decided to give in to the adversaries lies. The pain I feel trumps any pains I have ever felt. To spiritually loose someone you love, to watch them willingly damn themselves, I believe brings about the greatest pain that will ever be known. Christ brought this kind of pain upon himself for every last one of those people who have turned their back on him...

Now all we can do is have faith and love. But it is so hard. How do you hope for something you are so terrified might never happen? Why do you love when you know it might not matter how much you love, the outcome still might not change? Eternal truths are funny things and God is wise. The very things that are so hard to do right now, practice faith and feel love, are the only things that might save this person. Yet they are the very things that scare us the most to do for this person. And I would go to the ends of the earth for this person.

I have never known what it was like to be willing to die for someone and actually be put in that position. I was closer to that experience than I ever have been this weekend. In the middle of the night, Colton and I drove into town to deliver some notes of love and encouragement to this person. The deer are kind of bad at night and it's normal to drive carefully and watchfully. While I was driving I thought, what if we hit a deer, and swirved, and died? Could God use such a tragedy to bring to pass a change in the life of this person? Would they come back to Christ? Now just for clarity, I wasn't about to make this event happen. I wasn't about to take things into my own hands. However, I came to the conclusion that if Heavenly Father's plan included us dying that night, in order to save our cherished person, that I would be more than willing to die if it meant he would come back to Christ.

If we have to become perfect in order to receive our exaltation, a few things must happen. We must be willing to sacrifice ANYTHING the Lord asks of us, no matter what it is or how crazy it may seem. Think back to the story of Abraham about to sacrifice Isaac. The old testament institute manual sheds some amazing light on why God required Abraham to go through such a test. If you are interested in reading about it, copy and paste the link at the end of this paragraph into a new window. We must also be able to know the Savior because we are like him. Perhaps, that might mean, that we would be willing to die in order to save our fellow men. I wonder, if this is what I felt the other night, when I was willing to die if it meant that it would save this person.

http://institute.lds.org/manuals/old-testament-institute-student-manual-1/ot-in1-03-gen-b-6.asp

Obviously, as I am typing to you, us dying wasn't apart of the Lord's plan. Sacrificing Isaac wasn't either. So why do we have these kind of experiences? Boy you should really read that link I provided! The answer is at the bottom of the page. Just so you know, I stumbled upon this information during my daily scripture study last week...apparently, the Lord knew I would need it for Sunday and for the days to come.

I must have faith for this person and I must have love for this person. Even though these are the last things I want to do because they feel impossible and make me feel so vulnerable. I must have faith and love because they are the only things that might save this person some day, even if some day is a long, long, long time a way. I can't let the fear of this person never coming back to the gospel in, because faith and love are required of this family now to bring this person back. I must have faith and love so that I can know my Savior fully, and be like him. If I am to be eternally happy, I must have faith and love no matter what is asked of me.

I know I have a Savior, who died for me no matter if I wanted him to or not. I know my Savior died for this other person, even though this person didn't want to except the gift. I know my Savior felt pain for me and for all the world that doesn't even touch the pain I feel right now. I know that I can somehow, follow in His footsteps and enjoy this life, even after the loss of our cherished person. I know that the wonderful power of the atonement can bring this person back someday, if I have faith and love. I know this. I know it.

This all was pretty profound to me. I hope I never forget it.

Updated! Sorta!

A new post for the dyes! Yes I know, shocker! Well sort of a new post...more like a plug...but I promise I have pics and stories from all summer long I will put up this weekend! It's going to happen, I promise! So anyway:

Citydeals.com is amazing. All these companies give huge discounts on family fun, entertainment, restaurants, etc. You can see the deals for your location. So far, here is what I have personally bought:

-1 sunset sailing 2 hour cruise with dessert for 2 on Utah Lake! We did this for Colton's birthday (pics to come!). It cost us only $48 dollars!
-1 skybox sports grill/restaurant ticket for $25. Paid only $5! Watched the Utes this last weekend!
-1/2 off tickets to the Heber Creeper Historical Railroad. We bought the Haunted Train Trip for Halloween! Should be fun fun fun!
-and now, there are season passes for only $12 to the cornbelly mazes and all their other 20 attractions, unlimited access! I'm buying that one today!

I would love it if you just sign up an account, don't even have to buy anything, and tell them Shaylene Dye referred you! I get $10 for every referral! Then maybe you'll want to refer some friends too! They really are swell!

the link you have to use to refer me is http://www.citydeals.com/?ref=CDUMTAwMTE1
I promise it is totally safe and this is really me, not some hacker in my account! :)

The Long Awaited WALMART price book!!!!

It's finally here for all those who have been patiently waiting! I finished it on Saturday! Here is the base prices(not sale prices) for everything I might ever buy in the Grocery section for Walmart. I compare store circular prices combined with a coupon if I have it to this walmart price book. Sometimes their cheaper, sometimes they're not. For the majority of the things on my list, walmart is cheaper, we don't mind a lot of the walmart generics and I usually can't find these products cheaper than a name brand with a coupon. If I do, I ask Walmart to price match it. Sometimes I don't price match and I go to the store itself just because I enjoy shopping somewhere other than walmart. It is a huge pain to shop at walmart, but the savings are more worth it to me.

*if I prefer a certain brand, it is listed, otherwise, it is probably the generic brand listed. It is organized by isle for the Cedar City Walmart, starting at the back of the store, since I like to finish right by the checkout stands. We buy a lot of reduced fat/fat free products, which I have also specified. Often, the original product is the same price or cheaper than the healthier versions. To make searching this huge list easier, copy and paste it into a word document. Then hit ctrl + F and type the item you are searching for in the search box. Remember, if it's cheaper than this list it is a good deal!

Also, produce is super difficult to track. It varies in quality and location across the nation. I suggest you pick the things you might want to stock up on (for us it's freezing berries, other fruits, etc.) and monitor the prices of only these items. Other than that, try to only eat things that are in season. This gives you a lot of variety and is cheaper than buying a lot of produce out of season. You can still compare circulars for what's in season each week and buy that produce from the store that's cheapest each week or price match at walmart if you get a good deal on produce, sometimes walmart produce and meat are icky, so consider this as well.

Hate sectioning grapefruit? Have paper cluttering your house?

Me too!  I know these are two totally random problems, but they are what I stumbled upon during my blog stocker session this morning.

1.  Grapefruit is delicious but such a pain!  Right?!  I know!  So follow this link:
I am definitely going to try this! I think I'll buy a grapefruit next time I'm at the store!  Happy grapefruiting!

2. I have tons of paper clutter!  I started an action center (see link below) to organize it but it hasn't been working.  After reading the link, I figured out why!  I stuck my action center in a room I don't like to spend much time in...duh!  My action center also didn't fit my organizing style...double duh!!!

Here's what wasn't working...again, in a room where the problem wasn't occurring and totally not my organizing style (very important):
My paper clutter builds up right next to my couch.  Like my mom, I've never been much of a coffee table person, I like an open room and I hate how easily it becomes a hot spot (a term for a catch-all for clutter).  But we've had a coffe table for the last three years since I didn't know where to put stuff.  We finally sold our coffee table at my first yard sale this last weekend (so fun!).  But now, I don't have a spot to put stuff...where's this all leading your wondering?  Well... I bought this cute LITTLE side table that will sit against a wall and not in the MIDDLE of my living room!  It's my new action center and it's actually in the room where the clutter builds up...in the exact spot it builds up even!!!!   It has three containers to 1. Action, 2. File, or 3. Use (again, read the link, it explains everything!).  I'm so giddy!  Can't wait to see how it works!
Want to know what an action center is and how to handle paper clutter?  Follow this link, it could be life changing!:

Here is my oh so cute lil' action center!

Life change Update!

I forget that there are so many places I have to keep people informed on about us! (facebook, blogger, texting, emails, phone calls, etc.)  I realized I haven't told the bloggers yet about Colton and I's future plans...though a lot of you know already.  Colton was accepted to the Master's in Finance at the University of Utah and I have been accepted to the Rehabilitation and Sport Medicine PhD at Brigham Young University.  We will be moving up to probably the Lehi area sometime this summer.  We are so sad to leave Cedar City, I've been here 5 years now and Colton 3.  It is an amazing place but we are so excited for a new adventure!  We know people typically grow apart with time and distance but we hope our little group of friends can last throughout the years, the moving, the job changes, the growing families, and whatever life may bring us all.  Thanks and love to our FHE group and how much you have touched our lives!

SpRiNg bReAk san diego style!!!

What does 8 best buddies + college education + part time jobs + no money + young newlyweds + road trip
equal...
= ???

One of the best vacations of all time!

Day 1-can't wait for the beach, playin' some football in the parking garage
THE BEACH!!!! 80 degrees and sunshine.  Boogie Boardin' with Colton was so much fun!  Non-Wetsuit the water was freezing, but with them it felt so good.
While Jed & Amanda were surfing we helped watch Cali.  Poor lil' girl was too excited to nap but oh so tuckered out!  I put her in her stroller and walked her around on the board walk and less than 2 minutes later... :)

Colton went surfing for the first time.  This is our friend Taylor with him.

This boy loves the beach

Day 2
March Madness and Old Town San Diego

This is at the Mormon Battalion Site.  It is so awesome and so free and so worth anyone's time.  They just redid it and we were there just a week too early-an apostle will be dedicating it this Friday, I forget which one.
the group, L to R: The Dyes, The Webbs, The Foulgers, The Ledbetters, we are so close to this gang, it will be so hard when we all move away!
Inside the show, you move room to room and they make it as if you are traveling along with the Mormon Battalion.  It was really cool for little kids and big kids (i.e. Colton and I) too!

There's gold in them thar hills!

Of course I had to get a picture in front of the Colorado house!

DAY 3: MARCH MADNESS (AGAIN...) AND SEA WORLD!!!

We went to Sea World with the Webbs, it was Amanda, Cali, and I's first time!  I loved it.  No lines, no waiting, and lots of cool animals to see and interaction!

Couldn't find a good Sea World sign to take a picture in front of so we decided this cute little whale-bug would do

the Webbs, thanks for coming with us guys it was so fun!

big fishy!

I think Amanda should chase her dream of being a trainer...I would love to come visit a friend who worked here! ;)

These flamingos were out of their habitat right next to the side walk.

This is how close we could get to them!

Cali and her "tweet tweets," this was the first animal she saw and she was so mad when we started to move on to see other things...she didn't figure out till later on in the day that this place was full of animals and we weren't taking her away from them!

Penguin Exhibit Feeding Time, they had 5 different kinds of penguins...who knew there are more than 1?!

sea otters, they looked like big ferrets

feeding time for the seals

The Sea Lion Show, it was pretty sweet

Check out the albino walrus! That thing was a beast!

sea turtles, by the way, this was at the restaurant where we ate for lunch...and also, where I was pooped on by a flying seagull...watch out!

the dolphin tank

We got to feel the bat rays, they have their stingers removed, this was definitely one of the high lights of Sea World!  They are so slimy but very, very cool!

Colton pretending to have food for this hungry bat ray

At the tide pools, holding a live star fish... "Keep it in the water!!!!" :)

this fish was huge, we used Cali for a comparison

big fishy, could have eaten her lol

excited for the "ishy's" face

her parents would point her in a direction and she would take off with this face, guess she wasn't mad anymore that we were moving on to see the next exhibit

the ride over the bay, it was pretty but really short

the bridge from the bay ride

DAY 4 THE SWAP MEET, "LA JOLLA" COVE,  AND UNO'S PIZZA (WAY GOOD PIZZA BY THE WAY) , pronounced by our group with a Ja! :) right gang?
We heard this beach had clear water for snorkeling and tide pools with starfish, the water was clear enough to see the ocean floor!

the clear water

seals on a small rock island

It's the time of year for the seals to have their pups and La Jolla is one of the only places they can do that...here's all the mommies and their babies on the beach.  It was cool to see this out in the wild.  They ask that you don't get too close so it doesn't stress out the mothers and babies.

pelican

seal on the other side of the cove away from the birthing place, it didn't seem to mind we were there
